Minimalism is best described as art with no subtext or, “What you see is what you get.”  Salem Arts Association invited our artist members to to strip down their creative process to concepts that represent a world of simplicity where less is more.

Call for Art: Acceptance / Alienation

Salem Arts Association invites our artist community to explore our feelings of belonging and exclusion, consider our place in and around our community and what community means to us, and to express forms of acceptance or alienation in ways that truly embody their voices.

Eligibility: Salem Arts Association Artist Members.

Take In: Sunday, May 19, 2024, 12:00-4:00 PM

Reception: Friday, May 24, 2024, 6:00-8:00 PM

Exhibition Dates: May 25 – June 22, 2024

Pick Up of Artwork: Sunday, June 23, 2024, 12:00-4:00 PM

$3000 in Awards Sponsored by Salem Arts Association Salem Arts Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors attending any Massachusetts North Shore school (public, charter, or private), who are pursuing visual or performing arts at a university or accredited art school the following fall.

Three scholarship awards will be offered

  • Creative Collective Innovation Award: $1000 award to a graduate who demonstrates creative innovation in visual arts, performance, or multi-media.
  • Ellen Hardy Memorial Scholarship: $1000 award to a graduate who demonstrates creative achievement in visual arts, performance, or multi-media.  
  • Paula Beaulieu Memorial Scholarship: $1000 award to a graduate who demonstrates creative achievement in the visual arts.

Applications must be received on or before Monday May 6, 2024.

Do you know about the amazing history of 159 Derby Street? This historic location has included ship builders, sail makers, distillers, even a paper stamper. Did you know the property dates to 1653? Or that is was once home to Benjamin Hawkes? Ever heard of Tuckers Wharf? How did Kosciuzco Street get it's name? Maybe your grandparents attended the Ukrainian Working Man's Association?
