Conjuring & Incantations

With the magical Fall season just around the corner here in Salem, we are preparing for one of our most anticipated exhibits of the year. What art have you conjured up? What incantations have been part of your creative process? Yes, it is once again time for the Salem Arts Association showcase of Salem, Fall and Halloween inspired art. All media that are the results of your conjuring and incantations are welcome.

Please Note: As has always been the case, this is an open call, welcoming non-member artists to submit their work. However, this year our gallery space has been reduced from past years, due to the loss of one gallery on the second floor and the small gallery on the first floor. Hopefully the small gallery will be back soon, once repairs to the building are made, but we don’t have a timeline yet. We will do our best to include all the work submitted at take in. But because of this, we may not be able to display everything and will need to put the work through a jury process by the Exhibitions Committee.

"Then and Now" - Stories of Change

Salem Arts Association invites artists to explore how our lives, surroundings, and perspectives have evolved over time. What once felt constant may now seem unfamiliar. What once felt fixed may now feel fluid. What was uncertain may now have come into focus.

Through personal reflection and memories, cultural observation, or imagined futures, consider the contrasts between past and present, and how time shapes our understanding of ourselves and the shifting nature of the world around us. 

What moments, or places linger in contrast to the present? What beliefs or ideas are now memories?

Interlaced: Art in Fiber & Form

The Salem Arts Association announces an open call for entries for a dynamic showcase of functional or non-functional fiber blending traditional or innovative techniques as well as sculptures made from a variety of materials.  Works in both fiber and or sculpture create works that blur the boundaries between craft and fine art.

An exhibit in celebration of self-acceptance and resistance against societal oppression within diverse and marginalized communities, featuring works that highlight activism, historical struggles, and contemporary triumphs for love, equality, and justice.

Inspired by PEM - Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools:  Our 19th Annual PEM Inspirational Exhibition invites artists to take inspiration from the PEM exhibition “ Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools, on view at the Peabody Essex Museum through May 4, 2025.

Call for Art: Alive 2025

Welcome to a new year and a fresh perspective for all of our member artists!  This Spring we invite you to submit your best work and express your creative view as we move into spring, and a renewed level of commitment and optimism for Salem Arts in 2025. 

"Alive" is our first member showcase of 2025 at Salem Arts Association. All artist members are invited to submit work on the theme of feeling alive, good vibes, positive energy, and happiness. 

• Take-in Date:  Sunday, February 23, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  
• Please bring the work you register on this form to the Salem Arts Association (159 Derby St. Salem MA) on this date.  You will be given labels to attach to the back of your work at that time.
• Opening Reception: Friday, February 28, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  
• Exhibit dates: Saturday March 1 to Saturday March 29.
• Pick up work at show completion: Sunday, March 30, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
