Members Showcase: Tell Me a Story: Myths, Narratives, Dreams, and Fairy Tales

Salem Arts Association invites its members to create figurative or abstract works of visual storytelling in their chosen medium and style. We encourage you to think beyond the traditional definition of “narrative art” and embrace the diverse ways in which we all “tell our stories.”

Our Roots Run Deep: A Celebration of Culture, Heritage, and Diversity

In celebration of Salem Ancestry Days, Salem Arts Association invites artists to submit artworks that celebrate their own culture and heritage. From portraits of our ancestors to a celebration of traditional visual culture, we encourage you to tap deep into your roots for inspiration.

Drawn Together: The Exhibit

Salem Arts Association is honored to host an exhibit of artwork produced during the Drawn Together sessions. Every Tuesday night since 2016 Sue Grillo and Beki Ferrar have put together uniquely eclectic scenes featuring live models as inspiration for drawing. Although initially at Gulu Gulu Café covid restrictions compelled them – with help from the wonderful people at Creative Collective – to switch to an online virtual Zoom! event. This is an exhibit of these drawings curated by Sue and Beki.

Be Still

Stillness can be the calm surrender that we feel during mediation, the quiet moment just before an intense storm, or the uninterrupted surface of a frozen pond. We invite artists to depict the stillness within and all around them, or the glimmer of the storm to come.

Inspired by PEM: Mark Your Spot

Salem Arts Association invites our members to reflect on the Shelagh Keeley: Drawn to Place exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum. We invite our members to submit artwork that deals with the past, present, and future of Salem, the North Shore, and MA and their relationship to this area. We also encourage members to submit artwork that is inspired by the PEM and Phillips Library collection, the collections of local cultural institutions and homes, and the legendary people and families who called the North Shore their home. Becoming: Transformative Journeys

The mythical hero’s journey is a tale of an ordinary person who goes on an adventure, meets their mentor, endures life-changing trials, learns an important lesson, transforms, and returns a hero. What is your transformative journey? Salem Arts Association invites artists to submit artwork that are inspired by transformative journeys and the act of becoming.

Artoberfest 

An exhibit exploring Salem’s history with Autumn, Halloween, Witchcraft, and the Spirit of the season. The resulting exhibit represents diverse interpretations of the theme and how, by bringing them together, we create a collective understanding of it.
