Salem Arts Association is proud to present a special solo exhibition by Salem artist John Wathne. Wathne's works interpret a wide variety of subjects featuring on urban and rural landscapes. These works capture the viewer with fantastic depth and illumination.
About John Wathne:I am a self-taught artist who has painted for most of my life, having developed my skills through trial-and-error, and techniques through experimentation. Always fascinated by the visual world around me, I have the opportunity to travel quite a bit throughout New England and the northeastern US. With my “day job” being a structural preservation engineer, I tend to see the world around me as an intricate 3-dimensional maze of shapes and colors that meld themselves into fascinating, geometric land- or city-scapes. I photographically document what inspires me and attempt to portray it in 2-d on canvas, often subtly re-arranging the scenery in order to best express what it is about it that moves me. I live near the ocean in Salem, MA with my wife, Deborah Greel, in a small Victorian home filled with artwork, books, model trains, our ratty little dog, lots of love and no television. |
