Artist Statement
I find inspiration in the forms, movements, and behaviors of those found in nature. For the last three years I have been exploring these themes through my 'Animal Battles' series. My designs start with a border in which I create my worlds: close-up views of small interactions against vast and diverse landscapes. Patterns and repetition are onlookers to the chaos of the natural world. The simplicity of black ink on paper show the light and darkness of what happens outdoors. The medium of printmaking can be in itself inherently random; though the blocks are carefully planned, I look toward the spontaneity that carving can bring. Though this craft found me over ten years ago, I feel that I am standing in the doorway to something new.
