Artist Bio or Résumé
After a childhood in the Midwest, I moved around, from coast to coast during my 20s and early 30s. I finally settled in Lynn, MA in 2000. I loved living so close to the ocean. During the nomadic period of my life – (Madison to New York to Chicago to New Jersey to Boston to San Francisco to Lynn in the period of 10 years), I took art classes wherever I went. When I finally moved to my current home on the ocean in 2012, I started painting. The last few years I’ve been captured by the scenery outside my front door and have been painting from observation. Through the meditative process of art, I’ve found the patience to be able to sit still long enough to focus on a painting and dedicate myself to a place in order to get to know it well enough to paint it.
Artist Statement
I realized my dream of living on the ocean in 2012. I was inspired to pick up my paints and capture the beauty of the sunrise over the ocean. I soon found that it was a challenging prospect because of how rapidly the sky changed, minute by minute. From that moment of desire to paint my interest expanded in various directions. I now enjoy plein air painting along the beaches and parks. From my kitchen counter, I see the ocean horizon and it draws me outside. It entices me to bring my paints and canvases to spend a pleasant day along the beach, painting a scene of water and sky. It’s nice when someone stops to chat and talks about a beloved friend or family member who also likes to paint. It’s nice when I am alone with my thoughts and just feel the breeze on my face and am studying the colors, textures and lines of the oceanscape before me. I use mostly oil paints and oil bars on canvases of varying sizes. I enjoy painting small canvases outside and larger formats – up to 4’x5’ in the studio. I enjoy the way oil paint blends and that I’m able to mix such a broad variety of natural colors. The painting itself is actually only one aspect of my experience of the day. A more important piece is that I get to spend an enjoyable day painting which is soul-centering - an activity which brings me peace, joy and calmness - a communion with nature and with the community. In the last 6 years, I have organized the Figure Drawing Group at the LynnArts building. I enjoy both portrait and life drawing.

I also stage Plein Air Paint Outs for which I bring my collection of easels to the beach and invite the community to paint the view. I've received the Better Beaches Grant for the last 3 years and have done the Plein Air Paint Outs at Red Rock Park and at Kings Beach each summer.
