A Solo Exhibition by Raymond Gilbert

    Works of a New Millennium

Salem Arts Association is pleased to present a solo exhibition featuring paintings and Woodcuts by Raymond Gilbert.

Raymond J. Gilbert (born 1966) American artist born in Lynn, Massachusetts.  Graduate of Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University (BFA 1993). Gilbert is an Artist member of the Boston Copley Society of Art.  Working in multiple mixed medium paintings and woodcuts. His work draws much from current life events creating contemporary historical paintings. Gilbert’s creative process generally starts by throwing sweeping lines and pulling out abstract forms which begin to materialize into a basic composition (that may or may not have a preconceived agenda). Pulling in image and working out details with active sketchbooks and cell phone images. A work is deemed finished when a coherent balance between color, space and form has been accomplished. (Theme being that which develops / evolves as it’s built.) Gilbert has won awards in painting and printmaking, his works can be found in private collection in North America, Canada, Europe and South Africa.

Creative Mind Mapping as Meditative Journaling
    Saturday September 15, 9:30am-12:30pm

Want to unpack a big idea or symbolically analyze a future plan? Maybe you'd like to explore the meaning of a word, or creatively brainstorm solutions to something that's been itching at you. Come discover the organizational process of visual and verbal mapping using techniques of textual branching, expressive lettering, and symbolic illustration. Plan to use black and white pens, then color markers on 8x10 paper. Learn to breathe, journey inside, and gain expressive clarity on an idea.

Before arriving, participants are asked to generate a simple motivational intention or a purposeful focus. A white, opaque office corrector pen such as Wite Out would be useful to bring, along with any personal supply of permanent and or water based markers, pens or watercolors in a variety of thick and fine points.

Card stock paper and a few colored markers and water pens will be provided. To see examples of the instructor's mind maps visit www.rebeccaplummerrohloff.com

Salem Arts Association is pleased to present a solo exhibition featuring paintings and Woodcuts by Raymond Gilbert.

Working in multiple mixed medium paintings and woodcuts Gilbert’s work draws much from current life events creating contemporary historical paintings. His creative process generally starts by throwing sweeping lines and pulling out abstract forms which begin to materialize into a basic composition. A work is deemed finished when a coherent balance between color, space and form has been accomplished.
