This August, the Salem Arts Association will present works by music photographer Tom Uellner, entitled Freeze Frame: Shake, Rattle and Roll. The exhibit provides a select overview of Uellner's portraits chronicling the local music scene, with a majority of photographs shot in Salem, Boston and surrounding communities. The special two-day exhibit will be held on August 9 from 10AM to 4PM, and August 10 from Noon to 4PM in Old Town Hall.

Uellner's photographs focus on the elements of live music performances. His own background as a musician, he says, gives him an insight into when a musician is really in the moment. "That 'freeze frame' moment is really what my music photos are about," Uellner says. "Taking something that is inherently sound and motion and catching that one frame that lets the viewer imagine what that performance was all about."

Uellner has worked with musicians The Boston Horns, Barrence Whitfield, Los Sugar Kings, Catfish Lucy, Fats Hammond and others, as well as serving as official photographer for the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival. He has also worked on album and promotional art for Terri Lee, The Doom Buggies and Corolla DeVille.
